New Mexico StageWorks
PLAY-IN-A-DAY
IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE | JANUARY 3 | 8:30 AM–7:00 PM | EIGHTH GRADE–SENIORS | $50
New Mexico StageWorks is bringing Play-In-A-Day for youth to FUSION on Saturday, January 3, from 8:30 AM–7 PM. Work as a team to create a play in ONE day. You will participate in everything from writing the script to costuming, tech, and performing!
ABOUT PLAY-IN-A-DAY
What can you expect from Play-In-A-Day? We will kick off with ice-breakers and group assignments (group size and number of groups depends on the attendance). Groups will pick an envelope with the lines they are required to include in their scripts and then choose their props. All participants will get a crash course in Devised Theatre! Devised Theatre is a process where a group of creative artists work together to conceptualize, refine, and perform a story. Often there is a set of required elements, such as a repeated phrase, a unified gesture, or an assigned prop. The process is challenging, educational, and engaging. The result is imaginative and entertaining! After everyone is on the same page, then each group will be given planning time to write their scripts and map their plays. Then rehearsals begin! Each group will be given an opportunity to run their show in the performance space and refine their production under the guidance of a theatre professional. The day will culminate in a public adjudicated performance. Feedback will be provided for each production and awards, such as, “best use of accents” or “I'm not sure why but that made me laugh”, will be given out to each show. This event is for youth from eighth grade to seniors. Join us for the creative fun!
Know a youth who would love this? This holiday season, give them the gift of EXPERIENCE!

A DEEPER LOOK
Play–In–A–Day is fun because it both challenges you as an actor/director/props manager/playwright AND provides an experience to meet people in your community who love what you love!
This is an incredible opportunity to start building connections with a professional theatre in town.
This is a chance to get a taste of pre-professional theatre without a high level of commitment.
You get to grow your horizons by participating in a show you may not have otherwise auditioned for.
Show up, do the work, meet new people, have a blast!
