SONICALITY Workshop with Agnieszka Kazimierska
Contemplative practices of singing, sounding, and movement
Agnieszka Kazimierska invites you to another edition of the SONICALITY workshop on Saturday, October 4, from 11 AM–2 PM. SONICALITY’s main intention is to generate an exploratory, “non-judgemental” context for vocal creation and expression. The point here is not to “sing well”, but to meet your voice as it is and to discover what supports a sense of flowing as you sound, sing, and vocally improvise.
Through simple and intuitive practices, Agnieszka seeks to foster a safe connection with your voice that is rooted in your body and experience.
This workshop is a space where you can explore your voice in relation to your sentient body and its ways of knowing. The word sentient indicates giving space to your world of feeling, sensing, and perceptions. Through different exercises, you will attune to your sentient nature, and let the sound and melodies be born in relation to what you perceive.
Agnieszka Kazimierska will guide you in this contemplative sonic journey, inviting vocal expression of your inner worlds of feeling and imagination. You will play with sound and improvised melodies that will naturally emerge as you go through the different explorations.
What you feel, how your body wants to move, the world of your imagination, your inner landscapes: everything that comes to life in a given moment will become the ground for your vocal improvisation. The simple fact of perceiving sensations of your body, your emotions, or the contemplation of an object or an imaginary place will become a springboard towards your vocal creativity and expression.
The first part of the session will be dedicated to practices that aim to ground you in your body and experiences. Using breath, movement, and sounding you will invite the body to lead with its ways of knowing. You will invite ease, playfulness, and simple experiences of pleasure. During the second part of the workshop, you will create your own melodies and sing and sound in dialogue with others. You will both improvise and sing songs and vocal compositions that Agnieszka will offer for this session.
You will meet your voice as a way of connecting to yourself.
You will interact with others through sound and improvised melodies, engaging in a non-verbal dialogue with fellow participants.
You will sing a cappella: at times alone, at other times in dyads or amongst all the participants.
This space welcomes all who want to engage in creative vocal exploration: beginning and experienced singers, as well as people who think they “can’t sing”, yet are drawn to vocal practice. While the beginners and “shy” singers will find easeful ways toward song and intuitive vocal expression, experienced singers might discover practices that can help to extend a sense of freedom in their work.
All voices are welcome. All levels of singing experience are welcome. All ages between 18 and 100 are welcome.
The sessions will include:
Guided practices with sound and movement
Exploration of resonance in different parts of the body and energy centers
Intuitive vocal improvisation
Improvised vocal dialogues with others
Singing songs/melodies/vocal compositions as an ensemble
Body-mind centering through sound
Experimentation with diverse sonic qualities of the voice, and how they relate to bodily sensations, feelings, and imagination.
Creating melodies from within your inner landscape
For Agnieszka Kazimierska, singing is a way of investigating my inner worlds, nurturing my intuition, and connecting to the wisdom of the Sentient. During Sonicality workshops, she invites you to have a taste of this approach to singing and knowing through sound.
