Julianna Kirwin is inviting you to the opening of her exhibition, “The Heart’s Memory,” at FUSION | 708 on Friday, November 7, from 5–8 PM as part of The ABQ Artwalk and the First Friday ARTScrawl.
"The Heart's Memory" is thanks to a grant from the Albuquerque Urban Enhancement Trust Fund, which supported Kirwin’s desire to develop a new body of work, larger in scale. As a printmaker, Kirwin has used a variety of techniques in this show, including woodblock, monoprint, and lithograph. The woodblock prints were made from plywood cut-outs, using Kirwin’s jigsaw. Some of the blocks were inked in the form of puzzles, using one color and one pass of ink, and then assembling the pieces to create the printed image. At the show, Kirwin will exhibit both the block and the print made from it. Each tells a story, such as the beauty of our New Mexico landscape—the tumbleweeds and the sunflowers—while others express Kirwin’s love of Latin American literature and the cultural heritage we share with our neighbors to the south. Kirwin’s work would not be complete without an homage to her grandmother and her Polish heritage as seen in her life-sized woodblock portrait. “I hope you will enjoy the show, and thanks to FUSION for hosting it!” —Julianna Kirwin.
Opening Reception: Friday, November 7, from 5–8 PM as part of The ABQ Artwalk and the First Friday ARTScrawl.
Closing Reception: Friday, November 28, from 5–7 PM.
