With New Mexico's living legends ¡Al Hurricane Jr., Félix y Los Gatos, and Keith Sánchez!
The New Mexico Youth Arts Ambassadors invite you to share in the New Mexico Holiday Tradition of Las Posadas. Join us at FUSION 708 on Saturday, December 20, at 5 PM (Doors at 4:30 PM). We will have traditional live music, a craft table, holiday treats, a posadas procession, and more! Come hear New Mexico's living legends ¡Al Hurricane Jr., Félix y Los Gatos, and Keith Sánchez! and create new traditions with us!
In the Villages of New Mexico, Las Posadas is a holiday tradition that originated with our Spanish ancestors and blended with the traditions of our pueblo ancestors and the winter solstice. Each year, a neighborhood was chosen to symbolize the pilgrimage of a young, soon-to-be mother and father as they traveled from inn to inn in search of a warm place to welcome the birth of their child. This story, which symbolizes community and kindness, is one we wish to share. The hymns sung in our traditions are in a uniquely archaic form of New Mexican Spanish. We will not be reenacting the religious drama of this tradition, but rather an adaptation that creates a positive and illuminated pathway for the year ahead. As we begin Christmas week, the winter solstice, and the gathering of our families and friends, we invite you to sing with us, create new traditions, and connect with your community.
A community donation box will be available, and we are accepting new and unopened socks and underwear, hygiene products, and canned foods. All donations will go to the APS McKinney-Vento program, supporting students and their families experiencing homelessness.
