Mark Binder: Lying, Storytelling, and Books Tour
"YOU CAN'T SING!” he said. And I believed him.
The NM Jewish Storytelling Festival/Storytellers of New Mexico is bringing Mark Binder to FUSION for his lying, storytelling, and books tour. Come join us at FUSION on Saturday, November 7, at 7:30 PM for "YOU CAN'T SING!” he said. And I believed him—a solo show full of tales, tunes, and talk about the power of changing stories to transform how we live.
You know those stories you tell yourself? And the ones that other people tell about you? What if you could change them?
From an urban Cinderella to Jewish village on the edge of the Black Forest to a dive bar in Manhattan, Mark Binder blends spoken-word storytelling and music, with a sarcastic dollop of transformational seminar-speak. YOU CAN’T SING is an uplifting show about upgrading the stories we tell ourselves.
Mark Binder is touring with his books The Worst (Light Publications, 2026) and The Council of Wise Women (Light Publications, 2024).
Free parking is available in FUSION’s main lot, in our lot next to Burger King on Lomas, and is also free along 1st Street after 6 PM (more parking info + map available here).

Their eighth grade was the best, and the worst. Then, on the last day of school, a high school student showed up with a gun.
"Mark Binder's THE WORST is a captivating young adult novel that treats the triumphs and tribulations of middle school with complete respect.... Overall, the book captures a beautiful sense of community that keeps the reader smiling through the lighter chapters and leaning in
"...eighth-grade misadventures with some ripped-from-the-headlines drama... THE WORST excels at portraying the dynamics of this group of friends. Young readers will enjoy spending time with these characters and seeing how they support each other... For lovers of fun but honest storytelling for kids... - Publishers Weekly
Fast-paced, funny, and unforgettable, THE WORST explores the moments that define who we become when things fall apart.
For the boys and girl in "Team Bomb Shelter," their final year at Jerome Marco K-8 was packed with disasters, inside jokes and a talent show. They called the daily chaos of middle school "the worst" - and somehow meant it as a compliment.
It should have ended with a celebration. Instead, everything changed.
"Nobody and nothing prepared us to deal with what happened when our middle school was attacked by a school shooter. We never saw it coming."
THE WORST spins stories of friendship, joy, courage, and choosing hope when fear takes over. Fast-paced, funny, and unforgettable, it explores the moments that define who we become when things fall apart.
ABOUT THE COUNCIL OF WISE WOMEN
An ordinary woman, her extraordinary daughter, and a secret society..."A thoroughly enjoyable novel, both moving and astutely farcical." - Kirkus Reviews
When Rachel Cohen is born, her parents' marriage begins to crack. As she grows, and her village teeters on the brink, it is up to her and The Council of Wise Women to cook up a plan and step in.
Family breakdowns, a village on the edge of famine, and the challenges of a beloved community...
How much meddling is too much?
With a warm sense of humor, Izzy Abrahmson spins a delightful tale of The Village Life that will make you smile, and maybe shed a tear.
A spellbinding novel of love, loss, independence, reconciliation, and the power of women.
You won't want this book to end.
"Abrahmson shines in this winning story of strength and determination….[a] playful touch throughout, painting characters who leap off the page. Chelm’s wise women are delightful and perceptive, their conversations a joy to read… a beautiful testament to tradition and values." – Publishers Weekly
