Sandia Soundscapes presents Celloquacious plus Meridian Alpha
Sandia Soundscapes is bringing Celloquacious to FUSION | The Cell on Saturday, February 21, at 7 PM (doors at 6:30 PM), for a melodious evening.
Sandia Soundscapes is a new series of electronic and electro-acoustic music that will escort your imagination on a colorful sonic journey. It will appeal to lovers of ambient, cinematic, downtempo, and other creative, chilled-out non-mainstream styles; fans of jazz, classical, world, and other adventurous music will also find a home here.
Their inaugural show at FUSION will open with Jim Coker’s Meridian Alpha. To paraphrase a recent listener, Meridian Alpha makes "soundtracks to the coolest Sci-Fi film I have yet to see.” Space music, floating ambient clouds, and unknown alien landscapes are all part of the Meridian Alpha experience. His performance will be truly immersive, presented in quadraphonic sound.
Jim will be followed by multiple New Mexico Music Award-winning musician Keely Mackey-Gonzales, also known as Celloquacious. She combines her soulful cello with judicious use of electronics to create swirling layers of rich sonorities. Drawing inspiration from land, memory, environmental histories, and the body as a listening vessel, her compositions often explore themes of transformation, grief, resilience, and reverence for the natural world. Celloquacious’s performances blur the boundaries between concert, meditation, and ceremonial space.
One of Sandia Soundscapes’ goals is to weave a closer connection between the audience, artists, and their music. Each performance will start with a discussion led by host Chris Meyer about how and why the artist creates their music with their chosen tools. Video cameras and screens will give you a close-up, real-time look at how they create their amazing sonic worlds.
Free parking is available in FUSION’s lot, and is also free along 1st Street after 6 PM. Say Cheese Eatery will open in the lobby of FUSION | The Cell from 5–8 PM for dinner, a snack, and refreshments. Quality bar service will be provided by Safe House Distilling Co. and Teller Genuine Vodka in FUSION | The Cell.
