SONICALITY Workshop with Agnieszka Kazimierska
Contemplative practices of singing, sounding, and movement
Agnieszka Kazimierska invites you to another edition of the SONICALITY workshop on Saturday, March 7, from 10 AM–2 PM. SONICALITY’s main intention is to generate an exploratory context for your vocal creativity and expression. The point here is not to “sing well”, but to meet your voice as it is and to discover what supports a sense of flowing as you sound, sing, and vocally improvise.
Through simple and intuitive practices, you will be guided to connect with your voice and perceive how it is rooted in your body and experience. You will be invited to play with your voice and inhabit spaces of memory and imagination.
You will be guided to attune to your sentient nature and let the sound and melodies be born in relation to what you perceive. Sound and improvised melodies will naturally emerge as you go through the different explorations.
What you feel, how your body wants to move, the world of your imagination, your inner landscapes—everything that comes to life in a given moment will become the ground for your vocal improvisation.
During this workshop you will also engage in different spatial dynamics: using the whole space of the room, while singing or sounding, you will explore ways of connecting and interacting with others as you move through the space. Moments of sound improvisation will be interwoven with moments of singing traditional call-and-response songs.
The first part of the session will focus on practices that will ground you in your bodily experience. Breath, movement, and sounding will help you to reconnect to the body and its ways of knowing. During the second part of the workshop, you will create your own melodies and sing and sound in dialogue with others. Sometimes you will be sounding and singing alone, sometimes in dyads, and also among all the participants. You will both improvise and sing songs and vocal compositions that Aga will offer for this session.
~You will meet your voice as a way of connecting to yourself.
~You will interact with others through sound and improvised melodies, engaging in a non-verbal dialogue with fellow participants.
~You will be guided on a contemplative sonic journey, where vocal expression connects you to your inner worlds of feeling and imagination.
This space welcomes all who want to engage in creative vocal exploration. Beginning and experienced singers, as well as people who think they “can’t sing”, yet are drawn to vocal practice, are equally welcome.
All voices are welcome. All levels of singing experience are welcome.
The sessions will include:
Guided practices with sound and movement
Exploration of resonance in different parts of the body and energy centers
Intuitive vocal improvisation, and improvised dialogue with others
Singing songs / melodies / vocal compositions as an ensemble
Exploration of how the voice relates to bodily sensations, feelings and imagination, and how they influence vocal resonance.
Creation of melodies from within your inner landscape
For Agnieszka Kazimierska, singing is a way of investigating her inner worlds, nurturing her intuition, and connecting to the wisdom of the Sentient. During Sonicality workshops, she invites you to have a taste of this approach to singing and knowing through sound.
There is a limited number of participants. Registration is required.
