Summer Latinx Writing Group: Exercises in Courage
Led by one of the contributors in Horizon Review, Issue 1, Victoriano Cárdenas!
Join us for the last ¡escribamos juntos! workshop in our summer series at FUSION on Wednesday, September 8, from 3–5 PM. We are happy to introduce Victoriano Cárdenas for a workshop on “Exercises in Courage.”
Everyone is afraid of something. How do we exercise our courage by grappling with our fears on the page? How do we confront the anxieties of writing anything at all?
In this multi-genre workshop, we will discuss poetry and prose in which writers face their fears, and through small writing exercises, we will explore and practice confronting our fears on the page.
Victoriano Cárdenas (he/him) is a New Mexican writer and poet, author of Portraits as Animal (2023) and Eminent Domain (2021). He is the winner of the inaugural Stephen Graham Jones Horror Novella Competition, and he has written for Meow Wolf, Edible NM Magazine, and Blue Mesa Review. “Intimacy of Strangers,” by Victoriano Cárdenas, appears in Horizon Review, Issue 1!

ABOUT SUMMER LATINX WRITING COMMUNITY
Introducing our Summer Latinx Writing Community! Whether you're working on a novel, writing poetry, drafting essays, journaling, or just looking for a reason to put words on the page, you're welcome here!
Born from a desire to connect local writers, the Summer Latinx Writing Workshop Series is the newest step toward nurturing a lasting creative community in Albuquerque. Special thanks to Horizon Review staff, Jas Colorado, for fostering connections among the writing community in Albuquerque through this new initiative.
Centering Latinx voices, histories, and experiences while welcoming participants of all backgrounds, the series provides a supportive environment for writers to develop their craft and find community through the written word.
Through writing prompts, discussion, peer feedback, collaborative learning, and dedicated co-writing sessions, participants will have opportunities to generate new work, strengthen their creative practice, and build accountability alongside fellow writers.
Creating a supportive, culturally grounded space for Latinx writers to develop their creative voices through collaboration, community, and storytelling. ¡Escribamos juntos!
